Parents Television Council by Its-An-Inferno Parents Television Council by Its-An-Inferno
Ah the Parents Television Council...Further pushing to screw things up for everyone else because people refuse to man the fuck up and be parents.

This organization attacks anything media-related that is:
1. Anti-family
2. Racist
3. Anti-Christian
4. Anti-Semetic
5. Not Kid-Friendly
6. Profane
7. Funny/Humorous
8. Sexy
9. Natural Human Behavior

Here's their issue with video games for example: [link]

First, I will say that when I was in elementary school all of the kids including myself played violent games like Quake, Doom, Conker, Duke Nukem, etc. Yes, there was plenty of violent and inappropriate content in there but did any of us turn into psychotic criminals? Uh, no. I've been playing violent and inappropriate games my entire damn life and I never got the serious urge to harm masses of people.
The PTC likes to rant about how retailers allow younger children to buy adult-oriented video games as well as rant about other video game issues, but let me say this:
1. Where are the parents in all of this? I doubt that an 11-year-old can simply go to the store on their own without supervision in order to purchase a game, and if so then the parents are probably unfit to begin with. And if the parents are present with the child then they should be able to prevent them from buying the game in the first place.
2. Why attack the video game companies? Game makers shouldn't have to "water down" their material just because of the potential of it getting into the wrong hands. Game ratings are there for a damn reason. Most games are made by adults for adults, and if a kid gets a hold of it somehow then that isn't the company's fault.
3. If you're going to blame anyone, blame the parents. If a young person DOES somehow obtain an inappropriate game then there are no reasons as to why the parents can't step in and remove the game from that child's possession.
4. There ARE parental controls on video game systems btw, in case you didn't know.
5. If someone can't raise and teach their child to know better than the content in video games, then they shouldn't have children at all.

Then there is the PTC's fight against television.
Their advances in that department are no less idiotic.
I read a few reports on their site about their fight against Comedy Central.
COMEDY FUCKING CENTRAL.
What the FUCK do you expect to be on Comedy Central? Elmo and the Adventures of Giggle Bear?

I can understand a little of their motives and the issues they are trying to solve, but most of the shit they spew out is utterly ridiculous.
The TV problems can be solved simply:
1. Get TV Parental Control
2. Monitor what your children watch
3. Learn how to use the damn remote to change the channel and/or turn off the TV to bad content
4. BE A FUCKING PARENT. STOP BITCHING.

You can't clean up every little profane thing in the world for your precious little angels. Besides, your kids will probably be exposed to it anyway at some point or another in their youth. It's up to you to teach them to know better and to learn right from wrong.

Fav, flame, comment, and use.
Made in PS.

In my opinion, children who are sugar-coated and haven't seen "adult and violent" content wouldn't be ready for the real world.

True, but one doesn't want to shock them. If one is going to expose a child to anyhting "adult and voilent", just be careful not to scare them. ^^

Yes! This is why kids should stay in school...it can help them be as brave as lions, which is highly essential for them in order to set foot into the great wide open by having to watch R-rated films as teaching tools in classrooms, and this is ironically coming from someone who was a bit nervous and shaky at first when she had to go through that experience!

The only reason why I know about these a-holes is because of the whole controversy behind probably my favorite Spongebob episode of all time, "Sailor Mouth". They said that it promoted kids to use profanity, yet the moral was the total opposite. Wtf?!?!

You know what makes all this even worse? The fact that these people keep bitching despite being proved wrong at every turn. Best example, multiple studies were conduced by scientists to determine if there really was a correlation between video games and violence, the results showed that, definitively, beyond any doubt, there is NO connection between violence and videogames, and yet these people keep complaining.

Yes! Parents should spend more time yelling demands in children's faces and they should also never fear that doing so would scar the kids for life!

*massive facepalm* Okay, seriously people, if your kids are so stupid that even the slightest thing that isn't super sunshiney and perfect turns them into well, the scum of the earth, then that's kind of on you for not teaching them how to deal with bad things and how that kind of stuff is really and truly fake.

Also, let's be real here, you're not going to let a 5 year old watch SAW, are you?

Indeed. Diligently scaring kids straight with seemingly nightmarish disciplinary actions at a young age can help kids brave the nitty grittiness of reality when they get older!

What if I told PTC that I've been watching my mother's adults shows with her since before I turned ten? Yes, before I turned ten, I've been exposed to shows like Desperate Housewives, Fringe, Supernatural, Weeds, etc. And I'm fucking OK. My mind hasn't been "damaged." 'Course, my mother taught me right from wrong when it came to TV and shit, but still. There's nothing fucking wrong with me.

They're better off putting parental controls on their tv, or better yet, get rid of TV and get a famblee package for Netflix.

To the PTC, perhaps you should look at ratings and the average audience of many TV shows before another one of your epic rants and petitions to have it canceled.

What if I told you 90% of kids are more interested in watching Spongebob or crappy sitcoms on Disney than The Walking Dead or CSI.

Exactly. They just want to make it like the 50s, if somebody used the lawd's name in vain, then they'll have to deal with a lawsuit.

Plus the younger demongraphics are slowly losing interest in TV, I quit watching TV when I was 16 years old, and regret nothing.

But to say that the average viewer of a "violent" TV program is a 5 year old, the redo your fucking stats.

Glad you agree! In other words, staying in school can really toughen you up! Now that I look back at that moment, I guess I was a bit too nervous to go through that rite of passage at first probably because the students in the classroom I was sitting in might've had older siblings who are supposedly mature enough to handle those films as a result of that, whereas I, on the other hand, am a first-born sibling.

You see, it is people like them that made me enjoy writing an "agrumentitive" essay on why video games shouldn't be banned/censored. It is not the responsiblity of the government to take care of your children beyond basic education. Anything else is the responsiblity (yes that horrible word *Le gasp*) of the parents who decided to have them. To blame the problems of society on something like entertainment is not only cowardly (because they can't face the life of a parent) but idiotic.

In fact, if I remember correctly, one of the documents that I cited for that essay said that even though the sales of video games had gone up, acts of violence had actually decreased. (let it be noted that I can not find the actual qoute at this time so this statement may not be completely word for word, but that was the gist of it.) Not only that but the PTC (and other groups like them) seem to completely ignore that those people who do go on to commit violent acts might have had some unknown mental disablities or might have had troubles at home. Both of these seem (at least in my opinion; I am not a psychologist...yet) much more likely to cause issues like violence than video games and TV.

...But that's just my thoughts on the matter. Love the stamp!

Yep that stuff gets on my nerves. Here in australia there isn't even an R rating for games so anything that goes above M rating is symply banned from the country. They do it because they think only kids play games. I hate bad parenting they they always expect someone else to monitor there kids for them.
